A wilderness fishing lodge of distinction
Between the snow-capped Coast Range to the west and the towering Canadian Rockies to the east lies the historic Bonaparte Plateau in the interior of Super Natural British Columbia. This is a vast wilderness area of spruce, fir and pine forests dotted with sparkling, pristine lakes, home of the famous Kamloops Rainbow Trout. Skitchine is located at an elevation of 4700 feet within Bonaparte Wilderness Provincial Park, a part of this paradise that will forever be preserved. From the peak of a five hundred foot ancient volcanic cone close to the Lodge, both mountain ranges can be seen at the same time, a horizon-to-horizon view of over one hundred miles. This is the Lodge’s home.
Your Skitchine adventure starts in Kamloops, B.C., where you have the choice of transportation by helicopter directly to the Lodge, or by ground by way of a well maintained logging road ascending to the plateau and Park boundary. There you are met by camp transportation and taken on a short ride through the forest to the spectacular Lodge setting on the shore of Dagger Lake.
A fishing experience for everyone, from beginner to expert.
With 15 lakes to choose from, all close, but all different, Skitchine offers an unparalleled spectrum of fishing challenge, from fast action on dry flies or light spinning gear for the novice, to the thrill that comes from employing all your knowledge, expertise and patience demanded by trout up 5 pounds or greater in some of the lakes. The outlying lakes are accessed from the Lodge or docks on Dagger Lake via a well-maintained network of trails, and are equipped with docks and two 14-foot rowboats. Dagger Lake has it’s boats equipped with trolling motors. The Lodge maintains a good selection of both dry and wet flies, and the manager will be glad to help you choose the “winning bug” as you try to match the diverse insect life and trout food supply of the mountain lakes.
Ever wish you could have a lake all to yourself for the whole day?
How about a different lake to yourself, or to share with a companion, every day for your entire stay? With 15 lakes and a similar maximum number of guests, you can do just that. Well beyond the sounds of civilization, your tranquility is interrupted only by the splash of rising wild rainbow trout, the call of a loon warning you away from her nest or chicks, or other forest sounds such as a moose bringing her calf to drink, or an Osprey fishing for its family. Basking in the afternoon sun after lunch, you may want a little nap in the bow of your boat. Go ahead, the lake and the day are yours to enjoy…. just remember to secure your rod before nodding off.
The trails between the lakes are relatively short but each one is unique. A variety of microenvironments are passed through as you traverse or follow the babbling creeks of the watershed system between the various lakes. Often getting there is as good as being there.
When your day is done the Lodge beckons with hospitality as exquisite as the surroundings you have experienced all day.
